Starting another Teaching American History Grant

We had 40 teachers join us today for the kick-off of Project Primary Sources. It's our latest Teaching American History grant. The high point is getting to take them to New York City in Summer 2006. The Gilder Lehrman Institute is one of our partners and teachers will also have the opportunity to attend their workshops and then come back and present what they've learned to their fellow teachers.

I've also posted pictures from the Project eHIKES trips to the National Archives in Kansas City in November.

Project eHIKES July 12-23, 2004

Parsons KS USD 503 was the recipient of the grant in partnership with the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center - Greenbush, Pittsburg State University, and the National Archives and Records Administration Central Plains Region-Kansas City. Lisa Blair is Project Director of Project eHIKES - enhancing History Instruction for Kansas Educators and Students.

Guest historians included Dr. Gilbert S. Fite, University of Georgia Emertius; Dr. Robert Cherny, San Francisco State University; and Dr. Constance B. Schulz, University of South Carolina. Topics of study included farm and agricultural history, family history, Populism, the US in World Affairs from the Civil War to WWI, and the history of documentary photography and how to utilize photographs in the teaching of history.
